"Roger, we can't praise you enough for this memorable life experience. Your organization and choices of things to see and do are just a wonderful mix of education, adventure and fun--not to mention the many good and new foods
we got to experience over many bowls of good humor." EP Seattle. 2006.

with Roger Harmon, Ph.D.

Greetings and thank you for your interest in our Asian trips. This is our fifth year of organizing and leading small groups of 7-12 people, plus Roger and sometimes his wife Nancy. We hope this year you will join us for what we think will be our most interesting trips yet! Our next three trips are as follows:

November 15-29, 2008: VIETNAM. Experience 14 days in beautiful northern Vietnam, including energetic, artistic Hanoi, where we begin our trip, and the World Heritage site of Halong Bay, with its wonderful seascapes and limestone cliffs. We have also arranged the special opportunity to explore highland villages, markets and cultures, where tribal traditions have been maintained more fully than in neighboring countries.

December 2-19, 2008: THAILAND AND LAOS. December 2-19, 2008: THAILAND AND LAOS. After orientation in Bangkok, enjoy four days in Nan Province, Northern Thailand. the home of some of Thailand's most welcoming artists, weavers and farmers. We will be with them in their homes, fields, community forests and rituals, and understand that some are masters at sustaining their environment and culture. Then we continue to the former Lao royal capital of Luang Prabang with its exquisite temples on the Mekong River. In addition, we will drive to the very rural provinces of Xieng Khouang and Sam Neua. Here we will meet numerous ethnic minorities, seek out the best traditional silk weaving in Laos, see ancient funerary vessels on the Plain of Jars, and visit recently-opened caves which sheltered Lao revolutionaries during "Vietnam War" days (actually should be Southeast Asian War days.) We conclude with two nights in the Lao capital of Vientiane and one night in Bangkok. Better roads and improved, though basic, lodging now allows us to see the wonderful scenery and rich cultural diversity of up-country Laos and Thailand

January 25-Feb. 7, 2009. Thailand and Laos (with optional "Add On" to Angkor in Cambodia) Experience lowland Buddhist society and highland tribal life as it is lived. Fly to Mae Hong Son Province in Northern Thailand and stay at an eco-resort while enjoying mountains, forests, rivers and villages. Visit Burmese refugee projects escorted by our program staff friends and tribal schools run by a female principal who is like a sister to us. Then, proceed to Southern Laos to the Boulevan Plateau and the Mekong River to enjoy coffee plantations, waterfalls, 7th Century A.D. ruins, and the decaying colonial architecture of the French. If lucky--as we were last year--we will see the endangered freshwater Irrawaddy dolpins that live in the Mekong near the Lao-Kampuchea border!

January 25-Feb. 7, 2009. Thailand and Laos (with optional "Add On" to Angkor in Cambodia). Please contact us for details.
